No matter how we feel about it, Goodreads is loved by readers. In a way, it’s not for us as much as it is for them, and readers are important to us. So it behooves us to hitch up our pants, and walk over and buy cousin Goodreads a drink and make a little small talk.
Yesterday, our Rich Meyer shared his knowledge about claiming your books on Goodreads. If you missed that post, please read it here. Hopefully you’ve now gotten your book(s) placed on some lists. So let’s have some fun!
Today we’re going to do this like-fest two ways. You can either share your author page or a link to a list where you’d like people to “vote” for your book. For your profile, grab that URL which should look like this: http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/3418971.K_S_Brooks and paste it in the comments below. Now everyone can “Like” your author page. The “Like” button is found about 1/3 of the way down the page on the same side as the author photo. Clicking on that will show that you like that author’s page on your Facebook wall. There’s also a Google+ button there, so if you have a Google+ account and you’re feeling generous, go ahead and click on that, too.
To share your book on a list, go to the list, then paste it in the comments below – it should look like this: http://www.goodreads.com/list/show/19534.Funny_as_Hell_. Make sure you tell us the name of your book. (Bad Book – yes, really, that’s the name of the book!)
[Don't forget, if you right-click the links, you can choose to have them open in a separate tab so you don't have to worry about navigating back and forth to pages.]
This is an EITHER/OR type of thing – don’t be greedy. EITHER your author page OR a vote for your book.
To those with concerns about the ethical implications of “liking” a book you have not read, we regard likes as more analogous to a “high five” than a rating or review. We do not support the idea of rating or reviewing a book you have never read.
PLEASE be sure to reciprocate by liking those who like you. This is give and take. If everyone plays by the golden rule, we all benefit.
